A range of Wildlife Education programmes are available to schools:

Outreach Programmes

The following programmes can be provided using your school facilities. NPWS will provide a power point presentation, field study equipment and review materials.

Our Wildlife

- an introduction to our native flora and fauna, the habitats they occupy and related conservation issues.

Our Bogs

- Bog formation, flora and fauna and the conseravation issues related to the future of this habitat are covered in this programme.

Our Woodland and Hedgerows

- An outline of the woodland layers and their associated flora and fauna as well as the related conservation issues.

Irish Bird Life

- An introduction to our resident and visiting birds

Farming for Nature

- An outline of the interelationship between farming practices and wildlife

Bats of Ireland

- An introduction to the lives, value and variety of bats in Ireland

Wetlands and Waterways

- Outlines the flora and fauna of wet land habitats and highlights realted conservation issues, assisting student to identify their role in the protection and care of these habitats.

Our Turloughs

- An introduction to turloughs as an almost unique feature of our natural Irish heritage and valuable habitat for our wildlife.

Discover Primary Science Centre Based Programmes

Teachers can opt to bring their students to our purpose build educational resource base in Ballinafad Village, near Boyle to participate in a choice of any of the following day long programmes:

Growing Wild

- An introduction to our native wild flowers. studets are also shown how to make their own small wild flower garden

Woodland Wonderland

- An outline of the woodland layers and their associated flora and fauna as well as the related conservation issues.

Mini Beast Safari

- Students are enabled to capture and explore a range of invertibrates to find out about their role in our world. Students will be instructed in how to make a simple refuge for mini beasts.

Pond Life

- An introduction to the flora and fauna of our wetlands including ponds. Student will learn how to make their own simple wildlife pond.

Bird Life

- An introduction to birds and bird watching. Students will also learn how to make a simple bird feeder from recycled materials.
